Why would you want to run Windows on an Apple machine in the first place? First of all, there's quite a large number of programs and apps that only work on Windows, especially professional software. If you're a gamer, you can't go without Windows as the selection of games on macOS is extremely limited. So why not just buy a Windows computer? Well Apple computers are known for their reliability and they hold their value very well compared to PCs. ![]() Windows migration assistant for mac os sierra download. Some people still buy used Apple laptops that are a few years old, something almost unheard of for Windows laptops. Mac owners can use Apple's built-in Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows for free. The first-party assistant makes installation easy, but be forewarned that you will need to restart your Mac whenever you want to access the Windows provision. Another option is Parallels Desktop, a third-party service that allows you to switch back and forth between macOS and Windows without having to reboot, but that product requires an annual subscription. Before we begin installing Windows using Boot Camp, make sure you're on an Intel-based Mac, have at least 55GB of free disk space on your startup drive, and have backed up all of your data. The first thing we need is a Windows disc image file, or ISO. Use Google to search and find the 'Download Windows 10 ISO' file page on Microsoft's website. Once there, select 'Windows 10,' and hit 'Confirm.' Choose your language and select '64 bit' unless you're running an older Mac that only supports 32 bit programs. If you're not sure, click the Apple logo at the upper-left hand corner of your Mac's home screen and select 'About this Mac.' If it says 'Core Duo' in the processor section, then your Mac is 32-bit. If you're running OS X El Capitan 10.11 or later on a Mac, Windows installation is going to be a breeze since those models use the computer's internal drive to temporarily store Windows installation files. If not, you'll need to insert a blank 16GB or larger USB flash drive or external SSD to complete the installation. Once your ISO file is done downloading, open Spotlight Search or Launchpad and search for 'Boot Camp Assistant.' If you're on an older Mac operating system, you'll see some options to create an install disk and download the latest Windows support software. Make sure all of them are checked, then click continue. As of writing Apple has a trend of completely removing the links of all the prior version of OS X from its website or App Store, leaving just the most recent one available to download, but if necessary you could request one from Apple by contacting them. If your Mac ran the previous version at any point in the past, you can re-download it from the Mac App Store’s Purchased tab. But if you have never upgraded your Mac or never downloaded any older version of OS X or Mountain Lion ( OS X 10.8), you can not get it anywhere. Don’t worry, as you still have an option to buy the license for Mountain Lion as Apple still lets you buy,. Once you buy the license you will receive a redemption code from Apple within 24 hours by email.Go to featured tab in App store on your Mac and select the link redeem on the right hand side under the Quick Links > enter the redemption code and then Apple ID and password, and it will allow you to download the Mountain Lion. It’s the last version of OS X that supports some video conversion applications and it runs very fast. Why would you make a Bootable USB installer drive for Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8)? You can run the installer directly from within your previous version of OS X to install Mountain Lion or upgrade to it. But there are a good number of reasons you might want to create a bootable USB(thumb drive) installer for Mountain Lion. Here are the list, why you might want to create a bootable USB installer drive for Mountain Lion. • Your copy of Mountain Lion can be installed on as many number of Macs as you want at no extra cost. So if you need to install it on multiple Macs, a bootable USB installer drive can be more convenient than copying or downloading the entire file to each computer. • The Mountain Lion installer is set to self-destruct the necessary file needed to install once it runs and you will need to redownload it if you want to install it again. Therefore, you are required to either make a copy of the installer outside of the default Applications folder or make your own bootable USB installer disk before upgrading. • If your Mac has a corrupt or damaged operating System that does not boot and you do not have a faster and reliable internet connection, you can perform clean OS X 10.8 installation from the bootable USB installer. • If you want to install OS X on a Hackintosh you need an external media to boot and install from so a bootable USB installer drive for Mountain Lion will be handy here as well. If you’ve been using Windows for any length of time, you’ve probably heard of Remote Desktop. This technology allows you to remotely connect to a computer (from another computer) and use it as if you were in front of it. This post will cover how to configure Remote Desktop on the (sorry, it only works on the Pro) so you can connect to it from another computer. In a later post, we’ll cover Remote Assistance and how you can use it to (mostly) replicate Remote Desktop functionality for a Surface RT tablet. Configure Remote Desktop on Surface • Make sure you’re logged on with an account that has Administrative Rights. If you aren’t you can still follow this process but you will be asked for the administrator password at some point. So you should at least make sure you have it • Open the Charms Bar (swipe in from the right side of the screen) • Select the Search Charm and search for “ Control Panel“ • Select Control Panel from the search results. • From the Control Panel, select System and Security • Under the Security section select Allow Remote Access • When the System Properties window appears, select the Allow remote connections to this computer option • You’ll get a prompt about power options (below). The short version is that you can’t remotely connect to the machine if it’s off or in sleep mode. Click OK • Click Select Users then Add • Enter the usernames of the accounts you want to allow access to remotely control your Surface • After you’re done, click OK on the open windows until you get back to your desktop • You’re finished and your Surface is configured to allow remote desktop access That wasn’t so bad, right? Now you can easily connect and control your from just about any Windows computer. If you want to connect to it from a different type of computer (like a Mac) you may need to find and download a Remote Desktop client for that platform. Personally, I’ve found this to be a handy capability. There’s been several times I’ve been at my PC and needed something from my Surface that I didn’t sync in Skydrive. With Remote Desktop, I just connect right to my Surface and copy the files over. I hope you found this post helpful. If you have any questions or comments, just hit reply. Hi Tim, Thanks much for the very clear description of remote access for the Surface pro. I am trying for some time to connect my recently acquired surface pro to my iMac, and have the following questions. 1) In the window “Enter names here” do I enter my user name for the iMac? 2) If I indeed am able to connect to my surface from the iMac, would it also be possible to run Office 365, which is installed on the Surface pro, and eventually other surface applications?? Or is remote access limited to file exchange between the 2 computers? Creative zen v plus software for mac. Try the following: • Go to Control-panel->device manager. Jack, Sorry for the delay but, I’m confused. Are you trying to connect to the Mac from your Surface OR to your Surface from your Mac? The answer will be different depending on which way you’re going. If you’re connecting from your Surface to your Mac, you’ll need to install a 3rd party application like TeamViewer on both machines: If you’re going from your Mac to your Surface Pro, you’ll need the RDP Client: As far running applications goes. Remote Desktop will allow you to see the screen and control your Surface Pro from another computer so, yes, you can run things like Office or any other applications on your Surface Pro. Keep in mind, though. That you’re just remotely controlling the computer so there will be some lag and both computers will be on and available on the network the whole time. I had the same question months ago. Everybody recommended the MACKIE MCU PRO, Hands down. No questions asked. That time its out of my budget, i keep searching for alternatives but i decided to wait and save. I saved for it and OMG its so awesome! Just plug it in and ready to go. ![]() One of the best decisions ive made. Since its not very cheap. Plus it works with Pro Tools LE 7 and other DAW perfectly. If you are in california i believe there is one on craigslist. So you might save some money. There are so many pros that I cannot list them all. But I will say this, even though Logic Pro is expensive, you get about 90 great 'plug-ins', unlike Digi's LE software were you get hardly any. You also get everything you need to start a song from the beginning right to Mastering it at the end, where again, you have to pay for all the additional plug-ins to accomplish this in Pro Tools LE. With Pro Tools you have to use their hardware for it to run and the DIGI 002 and now the 003 suck as far as audio quality, IMO. Can't Make Google Voice Calls on iPhone SE?oo. My passport for mac bootcamp. There, you'll see the Shared Folder. OS X creates the Shared folder when there are more than one user accounts on a Mac. It exists specifically to allow sharing of files *between user accounts* on any one Mac. Why would you want to use the Shared Folder? A great example of when utilizing the Shared Folder is quite practical is in situations where family members – each with his or her own account – want to share documents, images, videos and music files – whatever the case may be. This avoids excessive replication of files and file version confusion. Let me tell you how I use the Shared Folder – doing so might just give you some ideas. I create a user account on my MacBook Pro for each course that I teach. For example, for my iPhoneography course, a user account is created on my Mac, and it is named, quite imaginatively, iPhoneography. Windows migration assistant for macos mojave. Here's my preferred workflow for managing my instruction files: I create my Keynote presentations and Pages handouts in my main working account, and I keep all my files organized in my DropBox folder (referring to the service offered by Dropbox.com). I then place copies of the files inside the Shared Folder (using the OPTION-DRAG method). Within the Shared Folder, I create folders for each course. The files are moved and organized into the appropriate course folders. When in class, I log into the appropriate course account. For each account, I have already placed an alias of that course account's folder – the one that resides within the Shared Folder – onto my Finder Window sidebar as well as one sitting on the desktop in the lower-right quadrant. These aliases allow me to quickly drill-down into the Shared Folder. From there, I run my Keynote presentations directly, I open any Pages and/or PDF files I need to show for reference, or launch any Safari website shortcut files as needed. This is all pretty simple; not to mention a huge time saver. You might be wondering why I bother using separate accounts for each course when I could just as well do everything from one account. Android emulator droid4x mac. I have a few reasons for managing my course materials this way. Foremost in my mind is that I don't want the students to see my messy desktop! It's all about, 'do as I say, not as I do.' Yes, I know there are little utilities that address this, but doing so just adds another level of complexity. Additionally, by using a separate account during my lectures, I won't see (and hear) the various beeps and bops from text messages, email, tweets and other notifications that pop-up to distract the audience. I also like to modify the desktop background in order to personalize it for the specific classes. Several bugs in Mac OpenGL drivers have been discovered by the WebGL team at Google. Granted, OS X can’t write to a Windows formatted disk, but at least it can read the contents of the drive and you can copy the data to your Mac computer. Windows has absolutely no support for the Mac hard disk file format (HFS+). This means that if you connect a Mac formatted drive to Windows, you’ll simply get a blank drive letter and a message asking to format the disk. If you click Cancel, you’ll just get a message stating that the volume does not contain a recognized file system. I’ve already written about how, if your external, you might have to use the exFAT file format, which both Windows and Mac support, however, this requires formatting the drive and copying all the data back on. Another solution is to that way, but this requires a decent amount of setup. So are there any other options? Well, thankfully yes. If you use Macs and PCs heavily in your setup, it might be worth spending some money on a program called MacDrive. MacDrive is a great program that allows you to use Mac formatted disks on your Windows PC like a normal drive. Using the program, you can read and write data to HFS+ drives just like a normal Windows formatted drive. You can then disconnect the drive from Windows, plug it into your Mac and access everything normally. Outlook for Mac keeps asking passwords for amil accounts This morning I installed Outlook for 7 mailboxes. All worked fine until Outlook started asking for passwords I entered a couple of hours before and did function. We have a user who uses outlook for mac. He signs to gmail using the client and he has 2 key factor authentication. Thing is the client keeps asking for a password every few days/week. Outlook asking for passwords mac. ![]() If you find yourself having to copy data back and forth between Macs and PCs fairly often, this program is a great investment. The Standard version is $49 and the Pro version is $69. You can see the difference here. For me, the Standard version was more than enough. If you need to mount Mac formatted RAID sets on your PC or create ISO Mac images in Windows, then the Pro version will be necessary. You can try out the program using the five-day free trial. Once you install it, you’ll have to restart your Windows PC. Once you log back into Windows, everything should automatically be good to go. If you connect a Mac formatted disk to your computer, it’ll instantly show up in Explorer with a little Apple icon on it. If you double-click on the drive, it will open just like a normal Windows drive. If there is any file that is Mac-specific, it will also show an apple icon next to it. Now you can copy data from the Mac formatted drive to your Windows PC and vice versa. It works perfectly and I didn’t run into a single issue. I was able to copy DMG files to my Windows PC and EXE files over to my Mac without any issue. If you open the MacDrive app, you’ll see the main screen lists out the Mac drives the program has recognized already for you. Click on the drive and you’ll get some options like opening the drive, removing it, getting a size breakdown and checking for errors. I really like the fact that Disk Aware is part of this program because it allows you to quickly see what is taking up the most space on your hard drive, just like. MacDrive also has other tools, which you can see across the top: Create, Repair, Burn, etc. Using Repair, you can connect a Mac drive to your Windows PC and fix it so that the data can be accessed. This is a great tool if you are a PC technician and someone brings you a Mac formatted hard drive that is corrupt or unreadable by OS X. You can use Mac Drive to try and repair it and access the data right on your PC. Using the Create tab, you can create, delete or format partitions on a Mac disk. The Burn tab allows you to burn a CD/DVD for your Mac. Overall, it’s an excellent program that is well worth the cost if you work with both operating systems on a regular basis. There is no other program out there that lets you access Mac files on a PC as easily and seamlessly as MacDrive.
